Pop Mart x Riot Games: The OG, KDA and the Golden Spatula
I'm not sure what lore I've missed, but seeing as the UK only got a Pop Mart store recently (several months ago in London), I'm going to blame that. For those of you who don't know Pop Mart is a store selling blind boxes and sells the incredibly popular Labubu figures and keychains of a create that is fluffy (?) and went viral on social media.
Thankfully I'm not here to talk about those, instead I'm here to talk about a figure I only recently found out about and didn't realise was a League of Legends esque collab between the giants of blind box figures, Pop Mart and Riot. As well as all of their collabs to date!
I fear my bank account may take a few auto attacks if I'm left unsupervised in Pop Mart...
The First Collab
While I can't find an exact date for the first collaboration, it looks like it came out in 2023. A collab I would guess to test the waters and the market, the set has 12 standard figures with one secret - a staple in blind box culture where the figure is super rare and the odds of getting it are low - it is also not erveleaed on any of the packaging what the secret looks like making it a mystery. At least until you go and Google the set anyway.
The attention to detail is spectacular though I do not confess to own any of these figures I can certainly appreciate the level of thought that went into making these characters your own desk buddy. And yes I know she's contentious in the League community, but I would be doing a disservice not to highlight the level of artistic detail put into Yuumi, from getting her complexion bang on to the little magical accents, these figures do not miss a single auto attack.
KDA in your area
Did I just make a BlackPink reference about KDA? Yes, and what? I'm a kpop girlie as well as an esports and gamer girlie *shrugs* anyway this is the collection that first bought PopMart to my attention and forced me to take a trip on a very busy Saturday afternoon to acquire my own. Originally being bought in 2024 and rising to my FYP on TikTok from blind box unboxers, this collection is everything you could ever want and a bit more.
KDA require no introduction so I won't give it, but in case you need one - their music is amazing and their figures with Pop Mart have an incredible level of detail - better than the OG collection in my opinion. These figures are bigger than the OG collab - I'm guessing to get in the full level of details each of these gorgeous girls holds.
My only problem with this collection? I cannot afford to buy all of them and I've loved and have played all of them at one time or another - plus my desk is massively overcrowded with figures right now T.T
The Golden Spatula
And the one I clearly missed... so here's what I understand it to be and if I'm wrong please feel free to correct me in the comments. Fight for the Golden Spatula comes from the save universe as TFT and is a mobile game (?) it's part of the League / Riot World and so has the same characters hence why the figures are Ahri, Yone, etc. Clearly I'm slow as the first time I saw this collection, I thought it was some sort of dupe - not sure why my brain went there but it did.
Anywhoooo my stupidity aside, these figures are the standard size for a figure (less than 15cm tall) but they are really cute and the amount of detail in them is incredible. I actually bought one of these the other week and got Akali - I'm still after the Yonne figure too but that will have to wait until pay day...
Not that anyone asked, but here's what I think I should come next and hear me out - VALORANT agents as Pop Mart figures. I tried to have a play around with AI to what that would look like, but AI and I are really not friends and the versions I tried were... certainly unique. But anyway, the version of VALORANT agents in my head, would be similar to the KDA version - so taller than the average for figures but would incorporate the details included in the Golden Spatula series where there are the 'effects' to make it look like the characters are jumping mid air on something - this would look really cool on Jett in my opinion.
Anywhoooo that's me done for today. Which collab is your favourite so far and what do you think of my suggestions of VALORANT agents in the Pop Mart figure style? Let me know in the comments!
See you in the next one, byeeeee
