Meet the author!
Hey hey lovely readers, I'm getting good at this pre planning my blogs thing – getting them written not so much, but all that is going to change this year because I am determined to get this blog to 1k+ views, and be a better blogger / content creator (?). So here is a long overdue meet the author post – that I’ve only just now realised I never actually did when I started this blog, but I'm getting round to it now – better late than never, right? So sit back, relax, or sit uptight, choice is yours while I introduce myself properly!
Hai, I’m Nia, you might know me as Nee-Nee from servers, or Nia Quinn from my professional work – which was with ORDER Esports and Esports GG. I won’t lie, I had no idea what to write so I’ve had a google about what makes a good meet the author – so I'm just going to go off that and ramble until I reach a suitable word count!
I live in Europe, in a particularly rainy part of it usually between university accommodation and my family, and as it is almost always raining here, I prefer to be indoors. My favourite animal is obviously koalas, and I really want to have a Samoyed doggie and a British shorthair cat – both are slightly dramatic like yours truly, and both are happy to snuggle in the warmth, just like me.
Outside of writing and blogging, I love to read, I have a particular love of fanfic on sites like AO3, but paperback wise I love a good mystery or a romance (yes I'm a sucker for romantic books). I'm a beginner figure skater at my local rink, and currently learning to go backwards – let me preface this by saying I can go forwards and stop, much to my surprise, and all of my friends too for that matter.
I'm a uni student who first fell in love with esports in 2020 as I was introduced by a friend and I haven’t looked back since! I started by watching Worlds 2020, and then moved into LEC and Valo EMEA, I’ll be honest though, I'm terrible at both games. So if I'm gaming I can usually be found playing cosy games, probably on a Switch, and I’m always looking to try new indie games for funsies!
My friends online will tell you I'm a typical ‘gamer girl’ with the all pink set up (it’s only my keyboard and mouse that are pink but tomatoe tomato). I'd tell you I'm a girl who games, loves esports, and enjoys meeting lots of people in gaming because it’s so nice to hear everyone’s experiences!
I’ve worked as a journalist and as a content writer for a specific team, both of which I love for different reasons. Currently as you can see I'm focusing on my blog and my uni work as I'm increasingly close to graduation and moving into the big wide world! My favourite esports teams are G2 Esports (LoL), Cloud9 (LoL) and Team Liquid (Valo).
If you are new to this blog, this blog was first started back in 2022 when I first decided I want to work in esports as a writer, and try out news writing at news outlets. Although this is obviously a updating portfolio, for me at least, my blog is so much more than that. I get to share what I think on matches, research topics that interest me, write content I want to and chat about everything that got me into esports and indeed keeps me here!
The name of this blog is based on several things - 'smol' because in old servers (that are likely deleted by now) I was known as the 'smol' something or other (usually whatever the admins thought sounded cute), 'esports' for obvious reasons. I mean come on, it is an esports blog after all!
And finally 'koala' because koalas are one of my favourite animals (yes I know they have a literal STI - as a friend of mine was at pains to remind me), but I like them as an animal so they're part of my blog. Also my first ever esports job was for an Australlian company so I think it pays a nice homage to that experience and everything I had the pleasure of learning from that.
So that’s all I can think of currently when talking about myself – as I thoroughly hate talking about myself haha, but knew it was necessary for this post and so hopefully you enjoyed getting to know me that little bit more! If you would like to know more please feel free to leave a question and I’ll answer it!!!
Thanks for reading and see you on the next (actual esports) blog!
Hugsssssss
